Remodel Spotlight: Highland Southern Charm
This client came to us with a kitchen that wasn’t the most functional. The cooktop and the sink were across a small island from each other and a double stack oven took up much needed counter space.
Our goal was to create an overall more functional layout of the kitchen and maximize the counter space. We increased the size of the island and decided to add a new wall of cabinets. To make room for these cabinets, we had to shift the pantry door over slightly.
We reworked the pantry as well, adding in counter space and floor to ceiling shelving with space to store mops and brooms. The wall that once housed the double oven now has a place for a double door refrigerator and a small wet bar.
There was an existing support beam that separated the main kitchen ceiling from a short vaulted ceiling that we wrapped with a beam from The Olde Mill. We continued the wood accents by adding open, floating shelves on both sides of the range.
The client decided to refinish the existing brick floors and repaint the walls a creamy, off-white color. To make a statement behind the stove, we chose to turn a square tile on the diagonal, creating a diamond pattern. We also chose to use a solid grey quartz countertop on the perimeter cabinets and a beautiful white with gray vein quartzite on the island to serve as the focal point of the room.
