KBB: An Elegant and Simple Bathroom Design
A home with an architectural legacy – despite any interior issues – deserves to have its history and its original intent honored. That was just one of designer Logan Wheeler Ramirez’s goals with a redesign outside of Baton Rouge, La., where the home’s master bathroom was in need of rejuvenation, but the home’s famous architect and his designs also needed to be kept in mind.

Ourso Designs is known for their stunning projects and this one is no different. We checked in with Richard Ourso and Logan Wheeler Ramirez to see what a difference an addition can make. This gorgeous master suite was a collaboration among the team at Ourso Designs, designer Anne McCandless and contractor Frank McArdle with Big River Construction.

The master bathroom of this A. Hays Town house in Bocage subdivision was separated into a maze of mighty small rooms, including individual spaces for his and her vanities, the bathtub, shower and closets. It was dark. It was dated. And it was downright ripe for a renovation.

In homes today, formal dining rooms are used less and less—especially those disconnected by walls and shut away from the rest of the home. Ourso Designs treated us to a look at one of their dramatic before and after designs. In this home, rooms were compartmentalized and the formal dining room originally opened only to the living room. The foyer was used as a piano room. The design team created what now feels like an entirely new home.

Any remodeling project can seem overwhelming, but it’s guaranteed to go more smoothly if you partner with the right designer and builder. The new floor plan was designed to open up communal spaces for entertaining a large family of four children and grandchildren on the way.
