Mixing Modern With Traditional

Owner, Richard Ourso, loves any opportunity to add character and more modern pieces to complement the old traditional elements of his A. Haystown style home. This area of his kitchen originally housed the traditional 1990s style desk area which was no longer a useful space becoming a landing place for anything and everything. Richard and his wife have always been wine fans and decided to transform this space into a beverage station perfect for entertaining.

The bar is five and a half feet long and includes a 24-inch wine cooler with storage on both sides. The storage cabinets were made with premium soft-close hardware and under-mount drawer slides. The wooden waterfall countertop was custom-made by The Olde Mill using old pine planks that run continuously from one side to the other.

Installed above the counter are three layers of floating shelves also from The Olde Mill. Each shelf includes integrated LED uplighting and the bottom shelves have down lighting to help highlight the items of display. Frosted glass was also used in the shelves to help diffuse and spread the light more easily. Adding these wooden elements helped tie this more modern section of the house in with the rest of the house perfectly.
